Well, it's been a while! As we reached our first birthday, interest in our story grew and became the subject of a few media items. From chatting to Radio Cymru on New Years Day, to having a crew follow El as she prepared and delivered meals... Onest has been in demand!
Catch us on the following dates:
S4C 'Heno' - 26th of Jan... Heno visits the Onest kitchen and follows El as she prepares and delivers to Ysgol Plasmawr. Guests include the Welsh prop Catrin Edwards and PE teacher Angharad Morgan (who discovers a new love for halloumi live on camera!)
S4C Stwnsh 'Coginio' - starting on the 10th of Feb and running every week... El stars as a judge in the first episode, and returns for the quarter finals with the Onest Pod, where two contestants stage a 'take over'! Make sense? Either way, you'll just have to watch it! (Subtitles available)
We also announced an exciting collaboration with Natasha Harding Soccer School. We will be creating delicious, easy to follow recipe cards for the children attending the school.. keep your eyes peeled for some favourites including the healthy pizza wrap (below)
WAW! What a summer so far. From a Crossfit comp in Reading to a Welsh speaking festival in Cardiff Castle, the pod has been very busy travelling around making new friends. Here are the highlights to date:
> The birth of our delivery service! What started off with helping out a friend who needed to tone up before her holiday, has now grown to delivering delicious lunch boxes packed full of nutrients to various locations around Cardiff. From actors and crew working on Casualty, to doctors working at the Heath; from Welsh international rugby players to university lecturers at Cardiff Met. It seems everyone wants a piece of Onest, and love the variety of healthy meals on offer.
> Whilst Elinor was in Russia playing 7s for Wales, the amazing Nerys Howell took charge. After a quick lesson on how to attach the pod to the tow bar, and with the newly written and very detailed Onest Handbook tucked under one arm, she set off to the Celtic Manor for the Polo. And what a success it was! Our superfood salad made it's debut, and was an instant favourite.
> A return to our favourite customers.. the Crossfit crowd. We attended both regional rounds of the Scale the Heights comp in Cardiff and Reading, and despite taking a car full of meat to Reading, still sold out by 3pm!! Considering hiring a lorry for the final in Manchester in September!
> Back home to Cardiff, where the pod visited the most beautiful location yet.. inside Cardiff Castle for the Welsh speaking festival, Tafwyl. With over 50,000 through the doors in two days, it was completely manic. Thank God Elinor did a last minute dash to B&Q on Friday night for a marquee to give us space to prep the salads.
> Finally, we returned to the Depot for the Summer Social this weekend with our Onest Gone Bad special edition menu, including Welsh rump steak flateggs (a revelation) and choc orange Welshcakes (here to stay!). We had the pleasure of serving Bivin Mathew, a food blogger who proceeded to write a review we are extremely proud of! Read it here to find out how Bivin managed to put an Italian spin on the flategg.
Phew! A brief round up of our summer so far, lets hope the remainder of the summer is just as successful.
Well there have been quite a few developments over the last few weeks. Here they are in bullet form:
- We were awarded a 5 star food hygiene rating!!! [Spent a good 10 minutes jumping around the kitchen after opening the letter.]
- We now take card.. and the iZettle card reader is our new favourite gadget.
- We now have brand new props built by the very talented Dyddgu Hywel on her farm in North Wales. As you can see by the photo.. it's pretty hard to miss our menu now!
- Talking of menus... we have had a new menu and leaflets designed by Jonny O'Rourke, and can't wait to show them off.
- The pod made her first venture to West Wales and thoroughly enjoyed feeding the people of Crossfit Llanelli at their very successful charity competition.
- Work has started on transforming the back of our garden into a vegetable patch, so that we can grow our own veg! Watch this space...
Have decided to start a blog to document the adventures of the pod. Here is a quick run down of where the pod has been so far in it's first 3 months...
16 Apr: Waw.. what an Easter we have had. A very successful 9 day stint at Hendrewennol Fruit Farm, followed by a competition at Crossfit Penybont. Then we had our very first food photo shoot.. the results of which you can see here!
27 Mar: A very successful trip to Loughborough University for BUCS Big Wednesday.. the pod's first big event! The 'Pigs in Eggs' flategg was very popular.
9th Mar: We have had our first week outside Dragon Crossfit and are looking forward to opening again tomorrow! Come and see us from 07:30 - 14:00 Tuesday - Thursday this week.
Last week we were chuffed to welcome members of Wales Women's Six Nations Squad, who loved the Flateggs so much, some of them had two!
